MG B&T TC Special - 1958

History provided by Gary Malyon, who owned the car from 1979 to 1986: Constructed in 1958 by John Bruderlin and Leon Thomas (Lynx) using a highly modified MG TC chassis, suspension and gearbox and a TF 1500 cc supercharged motor. The chassis then fitted with fibreglass open wheel body using the mould from the late Jimmy Johnson's TC Special. This mould being a shortened and widened version of the RMV Riley body of 1951. Four bodies were constructed. These were subsequently used on Bruderlin and Thomas TC specials -- originally built for hill climbs and sprints in which they were very successful. Two of the original cars were destroyed in late 1959. The third special competed as both a sports car (with aluminium cycle guards) and as a racing car. This Special passed into the hands of Bill Reynolds in 1960. It ran unsuccessfully in a number of road races in this period before being dismantled for a complete rebuild. It was sold in this state to Tim Shellshear in 1962 and, with the help of his brother, rebuilt and raced for the next three years, when it was sold again.

Stewart MG - The Wheeler Fortune

The Stewart MG was built by Gordon Stewart of Sydney and his helpers in the early 1950's to the order of chemist Mr Les Wheeler at considerable expense. It was noted for its revolutionary and advanced design with its highly modified MG TC engine located behind the driver and all independent suspension by Morris Minor torsion bars. Its sleek alloy body featured a cut down MG radiator shell on its long nose.

Austin 7 Swallow

This example is the Austin Swallow Sports Saloon and was delivered in March 1931 to Mary Jane Hopley of Hull, UK.  It lay idle from 1948 to 1969 and suffered significant decay, was relegated to the Hull wrecking yards.  That "Lizzie" was finally rescued and given the restoration so much deserved, and that is a whole other story. Current owner is Mr Graham Burbidge from Wheelers hill, Victoria.

Singer Le Mans  'Special Speed '1935

Delivered 1935 in Melbourne. Ex Arthur Beasley Singer 9 Le Mans. Multiple Trophy winner including Golden Fleece Grand Prix, Phillip Island. 1938.                                           Specs: 9hp 972cc Single Overhead Cam, twin SU Carburettors Laystall Crankshaft.       This Le Mans is now in the custody of Trevor and Pauline Leech having been rescued some 20 years ago in a dismantled state. The Le Mans is proudly campaigned in VSCC events including sprints, hill climbs (it defies gravity )and trials as well as many kras spent on the road in Singer Car Club events, and although almost the smallest capacity vehicle competing it regularly wins against fierce opposition.

Text and Photography by Carol Corliss                                                                                            Last year I was invited to take a look at Mark Walker’s latest project, a massive undertaking by anyone’s standards.  One of the great engineers of our age, Mike Costin, came along having heard of the enterprise and been intrigued,  We were not disappointed.  A lively discussion on the merits of various options and decisions took place during the visit, this was truly educational and much valuable insight gained. This is the story at that time and I am delighted to postscript it with a report of its debut appearance in the feature race of the day at Silverstone for the recent VSCC Spring Start meeting on April 24th and again in August at Prescott.
