Sunshine and the general racket of race car preparation early on Saturday morning held the promise of a great weekend..
Before racing began, Motormarques made a short video of the special racing cars getting ready for the day's events. This video has now apparently
been deleted from Youtube, but If you would like to see it, II have the original disc. Please use the Contact Us function on the left hand side of the front page.
The 1st video includes the following:
John Coffin and Ken Bedggood preparing the Penrite Oils Formula Ford John Hazelden's Cooper Austin 7 racer General scenes around the Formula Ford garages 1928 Riley Brooklands - Ron Brownrigg Max Brunninghausen's Chevron B8 Nota FJ of Geoff Medley kicking up the dust before rain turned the ground to mud Bob Harborow in the Maybach II warming up Bruce Hartwig's 1939 Chrysler Bob Sherrard Maydale Morris special Jim Russell in his recently repaired Ford V8 special - The George Reed special.
Then practice began and the day looked very promising.
The weather forecast was not brilliant. Messages received from the aerial survey group warned that one hell of a
storm was approaching. The competitors were not peturbed. For a while ..
I also have the original videocam disc showing the downpour, and resumption of racing afterwards. If you would like
to see either or both of these videos, please use the Contact Us function on the LHS of the Front Page Menu,
and I'll arrange for it to be available.
